Suggested Level High 60's are a must. By the time you reach Zeromus, your party's average level should be around 75.

Before undertaking this quest you may want to heal your party, level up somewhere, and ultimately save your game. However, if you're in the mid-60's in levels, you're in pretty good shape, and regardless of what many say, the end of this game isn't the hardest thing in the world to defeat. Once you're on the Moon, you'll want to head back to the Crystal Palace where we earlier found FuSoYa in the same way we did before (through the several paths the Moon has to offer you). Once in the Crystal Palace, head forward to where we met FuSoYa earlier; a door will be leading into the next area of the palace, so take that (you can use the little healing spots to the sides of this room to heal your party's MP and HP too.)

Once in the room beyond which we found FuSoYa, you'll end up in a room full of the eight crystals that we found, lost, and sought the entire game. You can actually talk to the crystals (so do so if you'd like) to get some random information out of them, but ultimately you'll want to step on the warp to enter the Lunar Subteranne in the center of the room. Once in the core, go up the stairs and circle around and southward to another doorway leading deeper into the Subterrane.

Before going through that door however, go along the eastern wall looking for a false area in it that leads to a winding pathway and ultimately to a treasure chest. Fight an Armor Construct within the chest to retrieve the Black Garb, Edge's most powerful armor in the game. Hereafter, go back through the secret pathway, looking for one in an identical spot on the opposite wall. This'll lead to a warp that you probably eyed earlier when you grabbed the Black Garb. Go onto the warp and then forward and through a door deeper into the Lunar Subterrane. As you go up from this door, you'll run into a treasure chest. Fight the two Dark Sages and two Moonmaidens within to obtain a Sage's Staff (which is likely less powerful than the Rune Staff you should already have equipped on Rosa). Then, continue around this pathway to the warp, and in this next area, head south to another door.

You're nearing our destination now (keeping in mind, of course, we have to backtrack all the way to the entrance of the Lunar Subteranne after we're done here... so just keep that in mind after you've beaten the upcoming boss... just return to the entrance!). Head forward and down the linear pathway, through a door. Then head leftward along this new path to find a sword sitting on a pedestal. Examine the sword and the White Dragon will attack the party!

Boss XXII. White Dragon

Taking out the White Dragon is all about persistence. He likes to counter almost any physical attack by casting Slow on your entire party. This means that, like it or not, you're going to be going a lot slower here than you'd prefer. Regardless, you should have Rosa cast Slow on him as soon as you can to return the favor. Meanwhile, Rydia should summon Bahamut (though considering how slow everyone is going, she'll likely only get one summon out before the White Dragon is no more). Edge should throw Shurikens or otherwise attack physically, while Cecil should attack physically and Kain should jump. As long as Rosa keeps everyone relatively healthy, this battle shouldn't be a difficult one. As far as bosses are concerned in the endgame, this being the first boss, they get much, much harder.

After the battle you obtain the Murasame, Edge's strongest weapon. Use Teleport with either Cecil or Rosa to get back to the entrance of the last cave (you'll have to go back through the Crystal Palace), and then go south in the initial area and through a door, deeper into the Lunar Subterranean (this travel should have completed the first map, for a prize of ten Hi-Potions). On this next floor, go southward and then eastward and through the false wall (it's your only choice.) Head north slightly, then go leftward and around the treasure chest in the void there, eventually reaching it on the far side. Acquire the Flame Whip from within it, equipping it on Rydia (it's her strongest weapon). Then, go back rightward, and continue northward adjacent to some familiar territory, coming back out into a normal room to your left at the very top of the screen.

Head west through another false wall here. You'll see a door leading deeper into the dungeon, but make sure to grab the Dragon Shield from the treasure chest adjacent to the door before going through it (equip it on Cecil or Kain -- completing this second map will net you five Ethers). This next room is pretty empty. It may be tempting to simply go south and go down the stairs you find there, but resist that urge and go south of the door, eastward through a false wall, and up into a room holding the Dragon Helm. If you follow another secret passage out of that room, you will come to a room below with two more treasure chests - grab the Dragon Mail and Dragon Gloves from those chests (remember, these goods can be equipped on either Cecil or Kain). Then head back to the stairs we previously told you to ignore, and go down them.

Once down the stairs, head rightward. Pass the staircase you come across for a moment and grab the Artemis Arrows from the treasure chest beyond them, then go back and down the stairs. Once down the stairs, head leftward and through the door you find there. In this small room, grab the Elixir from the treasure chest. Then, go back out and rightward to another even longer staircase that you should descend. At the bottom of the stairs, go through the door.

In this room, head north and slightly eastward, grabbing the White Fang from the treasure chest you encounter. If you continue leftward in the room, you'll also find an X-Potion in another treasure chest. Adjacent to the second treasure chest, you will see a little indentation in the wall; it's a doorway out of this area. In this next area, make sure to fight the Behemoth in the chest to your left to acquire the Stardust Rod, then go rightward and down some stairs into an area below (you'll earn three Dry Ethers for your trouble in completing this most recent map). Once all the way down the stairs, head left to a treasure chest holding a Crystal Shield for Cecil (you'll fight two Blue Dragons in a battle for it though, so be ready). Thereafter, go through the door adjacent to the chest.

Go north in this next room to the top, and then east through the false wall. In this small room, before heading east through another false wall, grab the Protect Ring from the treasure chest. This powerful gauntlet can be equipped on any of your characters (we personally equipped it on Edge). After continuing east through the second false wall as mentioned earlier, go south to the indentation in the wall, signaling that there is a doorway there that you cannot see. On the other side of this doorway, grab the Crystal Mail from the treasure chest (fighting the Behemoth for it), and equip it on Cecil. Then, head back north through the indented wall, and north through the door.

Once through the door, head rightward and around the door you came from to a treasure chest holding Cecil's strongest gauntlets, the Crystal Gloves. Be aware that you'll have to fight a fierce Red Dragon to acquire them, however! Grab those from the enemy in the chest and equip them, then head leftward, and through the door. In this room, head north and then back south along the left side of the room to grab the White Robe for Rosa out of the treasure chest. Then, head north and through another door. Once through this door, first head leftward, and then northward to a lone treasure chest. Inside, you will find Cecil's Crystal Helm guarded by some monsters. With that equipped, head right past the door we just went through and to the area with a staircase leading down and some doors as well.

You'll see two treasure chests flanking you once down there. The one on the left has some Fuma Shuriken in it. The one on the right also has a Fuma Shuriken within. South from there, take the lefthand-side staircase to another treasure chest, this one holding a Cottage. Then, don't walk back up the stairs, but instead go left at the top of this small platform to cross the chasm over a secret passageway, and then follow the linear pathway to another secret passageway, at the end of which is a warp leading into another area.

Immediately grab the Golden Apple from the treasure chest below before swinging eastward. At the end of the linear eastward path (don't go north, there's nothing up there), you will find another warp. At the other end of this warp, go up the long staircase ahead, and through another warp. Another identical staircase will be here once through that last warp, which will have a treasure chest halfway up with a Protect Ring in it (just kill the Behemoth to acquire it... we suggest you equip that second one on Rydia). Then, proceed north up the stairs to another warp. In the next room, save your game and heal your party before proceeding to the pedestal with a sword atop it. Examine the sword to catalyze a boss fight with Dark Bahamut.

Boss XXIII. Dark Bahamut

advertisement

To have a prayer against Dark Bahamut, you're going to have to be careful and do very specific things. First of all, don't cast magic on Dark Bahamut. Mega Flare will be his response to each and every spell you cast on him, whether it's gray magic or otherwise. So, don't cast Slow, and certainly don't stray into summoning or black magic. Instead, concentrate on your own party. Let Rydia die if Dark Bahamut goes after her, as she's useless in this battle. It's all about physical attacking. This battle revolves around Edge, Cecil, Kain and especially Rosa.

The first couple of rounds should consist of Rosa and Cecil casting Protect and Shell on the party while everyone else defends. Then, have Rosa begin casting Blink on the three attackers, followed by Haste on the three attackers (and herself, if necessary). Edge can get away with attacking Dark Bahamut without Blink, since he's fast enough to dodge almost all of his physical retributions, but don't attack with Kain and Cecil without them being "blinked" first. When one of the spells cast wears off, have Rosa (or Cecil, it applicable) reapply the spells and proceed. Meanwhile, have Rosa heal as needed, keep the attacks up, and Dark Bahamut will fall before long. Remember -- no offensive spells!

Defeating Dark Bahamut will net Cecil the strongest sword in the game, the Ragnarok. Make sure to equip it on him right away, then return to the previous area where you can save your game and heal your party with a Cottage. From there, return several screens previous to where we crossed the chasm with the invisible bridge, where the two staircases were located. Once down those stairs, circle around the linear pathway to a door. Once through the door, go forward and to the left to find Minerva Bustier in the treasure chest. Equip it on Rydia, then head to the right side of the room and go through yet another door.

Once through this door, head south and then east, where you'll see a series of doors to your north. The one on the left leads to a save spot, so go through the door, save your game, heal your party, et cetera. Then, go into the second door. Here, you'll see a weapon sitting on a pedestal. Examine it…

Boss XXIV. Plague Horror

Everyone makes the Plague Horror out to be so difficult because he casts Doom on your entire party at the outset of the battle. Well, let me assure you that he's not difficult at all. While it's true, he does cast Doom on your entire party (giving you the 10 count until you're dead), his HP is low enough where he won't last long enough. If you have Kain, Cecil, and Edge simply physically attack each round and have Rydia summon Bahamut a couple of times, the battle will last all of a few rounds. Even the Plague will try to help you, by casting Haste, oddly enough, on members of your party (this makes Doom run faster). Either way, this boss fight isn't hard, you just can't dilly-dally.

When the Plague is defeated, you'll be given the Holy Lance, Kain's most powerful weapon. After equipping it, leave the room and head back left to the save room, to save your game and heal your party once more. Then, go past the room where we acquired the Holy Lance and go to the third room. In here, as you go towards to treasure chests, enemies appear vowing to protect "the ribbons"…

Boss XXV. Lunasaur

The Lunasaur is a pain in the ass, there's simply no other way to put it. His most annoying attack is the one he seems to use most often -- Bad Breath. When he unleashes this attack, random members of your party will be confused, blinded, silenced, and turned into toads and pigs. How lovely. This battle is all about perseverance. As soon as you can, get Slow off with Rosa on the foe, and then begin chipping away at his health with physical attacks. Though he casts Bio and can cause instant death with his physical attacks, the chances of you actually dying in this battle are nil. Spam Esuna with Rosa and Cecil on any character you can (Rydia can remain out of the battle), have Kain jump often to avoid the Bad Breath attack, and chip, chip away at Lunasaur's health for a victory.

When the Lunasaurs are defeated, feel free to grab the Ribbons from the two treasure chests they were guarding. It's a common misconception that the Ribbons can only be equipped on the girls, but they can actually be equipped on any party member. However, they go best on Rosa and Rydia, who are weakest defensively at this point. Equip the Ribbons on them, therefore, then leave this room and go back to the save area, where you should again use a Cottage and save your game. Then, pass the three rooms we were just dealing with. Beyond them, head north, then westward and down a long staircase. At the bottom of the staircase, head through the door.

In this final area, head rightward and down the stairs, and then head leftward. Before going down the stairs here, make sure to grab the Fuma Shuriken from the treasure chest ahead. Then, head rightward once down the stairs, and then down and over to the sword sitting on the pedestal. You should know what's coming up here once you examine it; a boss fight!

Boss XXVI. Ogopogo

advertisement

Ogopogo provides for a lackluster boss fight, because he's extremely predictable by nature. His major attack is Deluge, a wave attack that hits all in your party for around 1,500 HP in damage. This is easily nullified by Rosa's Curaga spell, however, so make sure to unleash that on your party whenever he hits you with it. The other attack you have to be mindful of is his Blaze attack, which is his counter to any spell you cast on him (you should still cast Slow on him and summon Bahamut [which will do 9,999 HP of damage], since Blaze is fairly weak). His physical attacks are, strangely, his most potent form of punishment, but he won't use it much. Simply keep on him with physical attacks, stay healed, and summon Bahamut, and this battle won't last very long at all.

When the battle is over, you'll get Edge's other most powerful sword, the Masamune. Equip it on him, then head back leftward, and forward to the staircase leading downward. Three Gold Hourglasses will be your reward for a complete map. Once down the stairs, go downward to the right and follow the linear pathway you encounter to the treasure chest holding an Elixir. Then, go down more stairs, head leftward, and go down yet another staircase. The treasure chest you encounter here as you begin to head rightward once more holds a Gold Hourglass. From there, continue rightward down the stairs, acquiring three Light Curtains for completing this map.

Continue southward in this next area. Flanking this area towards the top are two treasure chests - make sure to get the Fuma Shuriken out of one and an Elixir out of the other before proceeding southward. In the southeast corner of this area, you will find a warp leading to the next area (three Stardusts are your prize for a complete map). Here it begins to get extremely linear. Ultimately, you'll want to work your way to the warp at the end of the back-and-forth style platforms. Once you do that, go up the long staircase you encounter, where you'll run into some old friends.

FuSoYa and Golbez will be here, and will do battle with Zemus. They kill him in battle, but he comes back as Zeromus and becomes even more powerful than he was previously. Their efforts are futile in the second battle that occurs, and both are slain. Meanwhile, the remaining party at Mysidia offers their prayers to heal the dead party, and all of them combined (and even Tellah!) lend strength to the party in this their darkest hour. And now, the final boss battle begins. (Note: You acquire the Crystal from Golbez at this point).

Final Boss. Zeromus

The final battle in the game pits you against the evil incarnate himself, Zeromus. At the outset of the battle, you'll need to use the Crystal posthaste (the one given to you by Fusoya) to make Zeromus show his true form. Only then will he be susceptible to damage. As soon as that occurs, you can let the onslaught begin. You'll notice that you'll be doing a hell of a lot of damage to Zeromus, but he has a lot of HP. Either way, this battle is surprisingly easy if you follow our technique.

Rosa should cast Slow on Zeromus immediately. Yeah, yeah, we know that Zeromus's Black Hole attack will remove Slow from him, but he may not use it, and he doesn't use it often, so hit him with Slow, and hit him again and again with it if he uses Black Hole to remove it (by the way, Black Hole removes all status ailments, positive or negative, so don't bother using Protect, Shell or Haste on yourself -- just have Rosa heal). Edge should chuck his most powerful items, including the Knife from Yang's wife, and all of his Fuma Shurikens (throw whatever else you have when you've exhausted your supply). Rydia should summon Bahamut, which will, like the Fuma Shurikens, do 9,999 HP of damage to Zeromus.

As for your other physical attackers, it's simple. Since both Kain and Cecil should be equipped with holy weapons, you'll do massive damage with simple attacks. Cecil should attack (healing if Rosa is out of the game for whatever reason), while Kain jumps and does damage as any good dragoon would. Understand that Zeromus will counter with Flare, Osmose and more, but none of this is hard to overcome, especially because you can spam your items to save yourself without worry -- this is the last battle, after all! When Zeromus begins to unleash Meteor, you know you have him on the ropes, so stay healed, keep battling him, and put him out of his misery once and for all!

With Zeromus dead, you've beaten the game! Congratulations!
